Cody Hudson: A Chicago Tribute
My client Nicole is celebrating her one year anniversary of moving to Chicago. She wanted to tribute Chicago without the obvious skyline or flag. I know she loves artist tribute nails so I recommended checking out Cody Hudson‘s work as I am a fan. He is a Chicago artist and I was super stoked to see him doing so much around Chicago. He recently did all the designs for the Chicago Marathon and teamed up with Nike to release a limited shoe only available at the Michigan Avenue Niketown location. I first learned about Hudson after seeing his work at St. Alfred‘s pop up art spot a few years ago. I miss that spot! It’s always nice to see the success of a Chicago artist and follow their work along the way.

Safara Chicago

I did Laura’s nails with different Turkish prints inspired by her local business Safara. While doing Laura’s nails I got to learn a ton about Turkish textiles and what she is doing to support small businesses abroad is nothing short of amazing. She travels the world handpicking different textiles which is directly supporting small buisness and their craft. The art of looming has been known to be slowly dying, but with her support and others who purchase these items its keeping this artform alive and thriving. If you visit her site you can see all these beautiful textiles while learning a bit of background behind your purchase which I think is pretty bad ass! Happy to support another culture and art form!

Mara Hoffman
Mara Hoffman prints for my client Narie who moved away to the Bay. I love that every time she is back in town she stops in for a nail session. These are her natural nails and we actually had to cut them down quite a bit before I did her manicure, just shows that you can have naturally long nails with just a little upkeep. The manicures are shifting to brighter colors which makes me hopeful that warmer weather is around the corner. Mara Hoffman prints are sure to brighten up your fingertips.

Basquiat
Finally had the opportunity to do Basquiat nails when my client Bhree came in requesting his work. What I most enjoyed about this set is that when you zoom in on images of his work there is so much to see and find. There are hidden words and symbols and it can just get you lost in the image, which to me is one of the reasons why I love his work so much. If you notice we included her signature “B” on her index finger. Each set of nails she gets done there is always a “B” involved in the design, so if you see it you know its her!
“I don’t listen to what art critics say. I don’t know anybody who needs a critic to find out what art is.”
